

Riley Children's Health is honored to be ranked among the top children’s hospitals in the country by U.S. News & World Report. In 2023-24, we are ranked in 10 out of 10 pediatric specialties and are Indiana's best hospital for children.
In addition, our Urology (3rd), and Pulmonology (8th) programs are ranked in the top 10 nationally, with six additional programs ranked in the top 25.
Through enduring collaborations with the Indiana University School of Medicine, Riley Children's is ranked 7th nationwide for NIH research funding, totaling more than $38 million in NIH grants for 76 studies in 2022.

- The Pediatric Kidney Transplant Program is nationally ranked in the top quartile and is part of the Improving Renal Outcomes Collaborative (IROC).
- Conducted 26 active clinical studies and published 49 research publications in 2022.
- One of only 12 pediatric programs in the nation to offer aquapheresis, allowing for continuous renal replacement in smaller patients, including neonates. We had a higher aquapheresis volume than any other pediatric program in the nation for the fourth quarter of 2022.
- Completes more than 500 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitor readings annually.
- Our neonatal AKI surveillance and consultation program—one of the few in the nation—captures all neonates with an AKI episode and creates streamlined outpatient follow-up and research study enrollment.
- The only pediatric dialysis unit in Indiana. We provide inpatient (including NICU and PICU) and acute hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis services.

- Riley Children’s is home to a Level IV NICU providing the highest level of care. We are No. 8 out of 46 U.S. centers in the number of comorbidities present on admission, reflecting the complexity of our NICU patient population.
- The ECMO program is designated by the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO) as a Platinum Level Center of Excellence.
- Published 120 research publications in 2022.
- Home to one of the first neonatal neurocritical care units in the country; established in 2013.
- Participates in the Vermont Oxford Network to evaluate care compared to NICUs nationwide and to perform collaborative quality improvement with NICUs.
- Selected as one of 12 study sites for the potential ARISING study, a multicenter study investigating the long-term effects of AKI in neonates.
- The Fetal Center managed 470 referrals in 2022, representing a 33% increase in patient volume. The center is one of 36 members in the North American Fetal Therapy Network—a group of facilities with expertise in fetal interventions.
