Children and teens with kidney disease need quality care, guidance and hope. The pediatric nephrologists at Riley at IU Health provide a full spectrum of services and take pride in teamwork. They routinely consult with other specialists to provide coordinated evaluation and treatment. Through this collaborative approach, our team creates individualized treatment plans for each child’s unique needs.
Kidney Disease Care Designed for Children
Riley at IU Health is Indiana's largest provider of diagnostic and treatment services for children with conditions of the kidney, and the state’s largest provider of dialysis for children. We deliver personalized care that focuses on individual patient and family needs. No two pediatric nephrology patients are the same. That is why our team works hard to get to know your child and family.
We understand the challenges many of our families face when trying to access the care they need, and we take great care to ensure that our patients do not feel "bounced around" when they are referred to us. We will work with your child's referring provider to be sure that he or she gets an appointment scheduled with an individual specialist for consultation, diagnosis or treatment. Following your visit, we will contact you if needed with additional lab testing results, and will send a full written report of our findings and recommendations back to your child’s referring doctor.
When your child's referring provider calls the Pediatric Nephrology & Kidney Diseases Department, you may be offered the option to see a provider at our Evansville location or at IU Health North Hospital, depending on the services, tests and diagnosis needed and the length of time until the next available new patient appointment. However, if a patient prefers to be seen at the downtown location, we make every effort to see them in a timely manner. We also work to coordinate convenient appointments within your home community with your child's primary care doctor.
Our caring goes beyond diagnostics and treatment. Our team is nationally recognized for their innovation, experience, dedication and expertise. Our family-centered program provides expert treatment, nutritional planning, education and counselors to promote success. We have the newest hemodialysis technology and provide comprehensive kidney transplant care to children of all ages. Our transplant center is part of a nationwide pediatric kidney transplant outcomes improvement network (the Improving Renal Outcomes Collaborative, or IROC), which seeks to improve long term health outcomes and quality of life for children with kidney transplants. Our highly experienced nephrology team works closely with all the specialists at Riley at IU Health to ensure excellent comprehensive care for our patients.
Nationally Ranked Quality Care
Our Pediatric Nephrology & Kidney Diseases Department is ranked in the top 25 by U.S.News & World Report. We provide Indiana's only comprehensive evaluation and treatment services for children with kidney disease or kidney failure. Our team includes pediatric nephrologists, urologists and dialysis nurses. Riley at IU Health is a leader in kidney transplantation and has worked to perfect a new hemodialysis technology—continuous veno-venous hemofiltration (CVVH).
