About the Survey
We are committed to providing an exceptional experience to every patient.
As part of our commitment to our patients, IU Health posts providers’ patient experience ratings and comments online. IU Health also publishes patient experience ratings for locations. All ratings are submitted by actual patients.
How is the score calculated?
The overall provider and location ratings are an average of all responses to the "Would you recommend this provider's office?" question on our nationally-recognized NRC Health Patient Experience Survey that was updated in January 2018.
For surveys taken prior to that date, responses to the previous "overall rating" question are used to calculate the score.
In addition, scores are also displayed for providers based on survey responses on the following topics:
- Time provider spent with patient
- If provider explained things in easy-to-understand manner
Who receives the survey?
We survey all patients who provide us a valid email and/or phone number within 24 to 48 hours after their visit. The NRC Health Patient Experience Survey is independently conducted.
How are comments recorded?
As part of the survey, we ask patients "What is the primary reason for your score?". Prior to publishing, the comments are reviewed for profane, incoherent and defamatory language. Comments are also updated when necessary to remove personal health information (PHI).
Why don't we see patient ratings and comments for every doctor or location?
We believe more data provides a more accurate picture. That’s why we require a minimum of 30 patient surveys before we post a ratings and comments for a provider or ratings for a location. Over time, the number of rated doctors and locations will increase.
