Why Riley at IU Health?
A child with a hearing impairment may need a lifelong commitment from siblings, parents, caregivers, extended family and others. Our multidisciplinary team begins working with hearing-impaired children at birth, and we often maintain a strong connection with their families throughout childhood to support each child’s development. Your child will always be treated as a dynamic person—not just a patient with an isolated health issue.
Specialists at Riley at IU Health can diagnose and treat a broad range of hearing and speech-related problems caused by accidents, health conditions and congenital or acquired disorders. We are Indiana’s leading resource for children with severe, rare or complex hearing conditions, referred by their physicians for any number of reasons, including:
- A previous newborn screening that suggests a hearing or sensory problem
- Speech and language that is not progressing normally
- Monitoring children who get chemotherapy or other medications that could affect hearing
- Tinnitus
- A sudden onset of hearing loss after an accident or a series of ear infections
- A known sensorineural, conductive or unilateral hearing loss
- Hearing loss in certain pitches such as high or low frequency
Whether we meet your child at birth or later in childhood through a physician referral, we offer the care he/she needs to thrive.
