Riley Children’s is home to one of the nation’s leading pediatric nephrology programs. Our team pairs comprehensive, multidisciplinary care with novel programs that are improving outcomes for infants, children and young adults.
Innovations Driving Excellence
Riley Children’s Health has elevated its nationally ranked pediatric nephrology program through innovative initiatives that improve outcomes across the continuum of care. Highlights include a NICU surveillance program for acute kidney injury (AKI) that ensures early detection and longitudinal follow-up, a comprehensive pediatric kidney transplant program featuring a transition clinic for adolescents moving to adult care, and pioneering a virtual start process for continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) that accelerates life-saving treatment in the ICU.
National Leadership in Glomerular Disease Research
Riley pediatric nephrologists are contributors to groundbreaking initiatives in pediatric glomerular disease, combining clinical excellence with breakthrough research. Under the leadership of Dr. Myda Khalid and Dr. Andrew Schwaderer, Riley Children’s has launched the BRIDGE program to integrate biomarker discovery, registries, and clinical trials directly into patient care. Supported by robust labs, trial infrastructure, and institutional backing, the initiative aims to advance diagnosis, management, and the development of new treatments for complex kidney diseases.
