Kathryn S. Nevel, MD

Dr. Kathryn Nevel specializes in neuro-oncology. She chose the specialty due to her strong desire to help patients and their families during what is often the hardest time in their lives. She is passionate about research to find better treatments and improve the quality of life for patients.

Clinical Expertise

Dr. Nevel specializes in:

• Neuro-oncology
• Neurofibromatoses
• Genetic or familial conditions: Von Hippel-Lindau syndrome, tuberous sclerosis and other conditions that increase the risk of central nervous system (CNS) tumors
• Primary tumors
• Metastatic tumors
• Cancer neurology

Research and Clinical Interests

Dr. Nevel has published on therapies for neurofibromatosis type 1, glioma, diagnostics for primary and metastatic tumors, neurologic complications of cancer therapy and graduate-level education.

Her clinical research focuses on therapeutics for primary brain tumors—primarily gliomas—as well as neurofibromatoses and quality-of-life interventions for patients with neuro-oncologic conditions. She also serves as the site principal investigator for several interventional clinical trials.

Outside of Work

When not working, Dr. Nevel enjoys hiking, biking, running and spending time with her husband and child.

Dr. Nevel is board-certified in neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and in neuro-oncology by the United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties.
