Konrad M. Szymanski, MD, MPH, pediatric urologist at Riley Children's Health, writes compelling children's book to help young boys spark conversations about urological health.

Pediatric urologist at Riley Children’s Health, Konrad M. Szymanski, MD, MPH is the author of a new up-and-coming, family-friendly book, “What You Should Know About Your Boy Parts.” Launched in September 2023, the book is intended for young boys aged 5-12 as well as parents of boys. It offers a novel and engaging approach to educating children and their parents about the often overlooked but crucial realm of urological health.

About the book

In the world of Topsy and Twisty, Bobby’s testicles and an unlikely pair of heroes, the book highlights three silly, rhyming stories to address what to know about urological boy parts. Using a lighthearted yet trustworthy approach, each story is followed by a question-and-answer section. In the end, this book aims to help parents discuss the urological needs of boys and spark imperative conversations around health and pediatric urology as a whole.

The topics covered include:

  • Dangerous urological problems, such as testicular torsion, leading to the testicle dying
  • Common urological issues, such as undescended testicles, foreskin questions, circumcision problems and penile pain
"What You Should Know About Your Boy Parts," by Konrad M. Szymanski, MD, MPH

“This book covers what I (and virtually every pediatric urologist) wish all boys and parents of boys would know,” Dr. Szymanski said. “I hope that by empowering parents and boys, we will save more torsed (dying) testicles, be able to offer earlier surgery to preserve future fertility, prevent cancer, encourage kids to speak up and give parents confidence about these difficult topics.”
