Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Indiana provides a supportive home away from home for families of children receiving medical care at Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health and other area hospitals.
To meet the varying needs of the families they serve, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Indiana has three locations, each with a distinct function. All locations include places for rest and relaxation as well as food, coffee and space for dining. Most importantly, families are always just moments away from their hospitalized child.
Home Away From Home
The Ronald McDonald House on IUPUI’s campus features 46 guest rooms and six continuing care apartments designed for the special needs of patients and their families. Located at 435 Limestone St, it is just steps away from the hospital.
The House offers:
- Proximity to the hospital
- A comfortable place to sleep for short- and long-term stays
- Laundry facilities
- Wi-Fi access
- Home-cooked meals
- Fully equipped kitchens and stocked pantries
- Library
- Family game and activities room
- Outdoor play area
- Ongoing support from volunteers, staff and other families
Who Can Stay
Families of patients (both inpatient and outpatient) ages 21 and under being treated at any Indianapolis medical facility.

Inside the Hospital
Within the hospital are two Ronald McDonald Family Rooms.
Ronald McDonald Family Room Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health
Located on the first floor near the library and chapel, the Ronald McDonald Family Room at Riley Hospital is a quiet place for a well-deserved break for parents, grandparents and other family members. Continental breakfast and lunch are offered, with snacks, McDonald’s McCafe® coffee and water available throughout the day.
The Family Room offers:
- Snacks, drinks, and daily meals
- Laundry facilities
- Shower facilities and rooms to nap (based on availability)
- Overnight rooms for families whose children are being treated in a critical care unit (by social worker referral only)
Who Can Visit
Families with a Riley Hospital Simon Family Tower Pass or Maternity Tower Pass. Due to hospital guidelines, the Ronald McDonald Family Room may not be visited by patients.
Ronald McDonald Family Room Maternity Tower at Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health
Located on the third floor of the Maternity Tower, the Ronald McDonald Family Room Maternity Tower includes comfortable resting spaces, snacks and drinks, a beauty bar to pamper new moms, and a state-of-the-art massage chair. It’s a great place for escaping the noise of the hospital and relaxing, as well as connecting with other NICU families.
The Family Room offers:
- Beauty bar
- Massage chair
- Nap pod
- Family gathering spaces
- Electronic game table for sibling visitors
- Spaces for eating and relaxing
