Dance/movement therapy uses movement to enhance the physical, emotional, social, and cognitive integration of individuals of all ages and abilities. Movement is a natural form of expression for all ages, and when words aren’t enough, dance/movement therapy can be a tool to express feelings. Individuals can enhance their own mental, physical, and emotional wellness by exploring their natural capacity for movement.
What is dance/movement therapy?
At Riley Hospital for Children, dance/movement therapy can provide support for the following goals:
- Facilitate emotional expression through movement
- Manage pain and enhance relaxation
- Provide opportunities for choice and control
- Facilitate and support positive coping through use of the body and new coping skills
- Increase self-awareness through integration of the mind and body
- Promote body image and a positive relationship with the body
- Provide cultural therapeutic support
Because no two people are the same, our therapists thoughtfully assess individual needs and work with you to determine what interventions are best suited for you.
