At Riley Children’s Health, we’re transforming care for critically ill newborns through innovative genomic programs and a collaborative model that integrates advanced research with family-centered care.
Standardizing Genomic Care in the NICU
Riley Children’s Health is the first in the nation to launch a comprehensive Perinatal Genomics Program, using rapid whole genome sequencing to diagnose critically ill newborns in the NICU. This groundbreaking program, founded in 2021, identifies genetic causes behind complex symptoms in infants, enabling more targeted treatments, improved surgical planning, and better long-term care strategies. Riley Children’s is leading efforts to make genomic testing a standard part of neonatal intensive care.
Specialized Care for Babies with BPD
Riley Children’s Health is Indiana’s only hospital with a dedicated Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD) program, offering specialized, team-based care for premature infants with complex lung disease. Since 2018, the program has reduced tracheostomy rates, shortened hospital stays, and improved long-term outcomes through early intervention and seamless inpatient-to-outpatient support. With this program, Riley Children’s stands out as a leader in advancing neonatal care and helping children live healthier, more fulfilling lives
