Riley Children’s Health gastroenterology program combines nationally recognized clinical excellence with groundbreaking research, innovative therapies, and multidisciplinary care that set new standards in pediatric GI health.

Leading the Way in Research

Riley Children’s is a national leader in basic, translational, and clinical research across gastroenterology, hepatology, and nutrition. Led by co-division chiefs Charles Vanderpool, MD and Brian DeBosch, MD, PhD, the gastroenterology program has over 200 IRB-approved studies. With a strong focus on collaboration, Riley Children’s researchers are driving discoveries that directly inform better treatments, positioning the institution at the forefront of pediatric science. This leadership is exemplified by highlights including Dr. Brian DeBosch’s NIH-funded work defining molecular targets for obesity and metabolic liver disease, Dr. Jean Molleston’s leadership in the ChiLDReN Network that identified a non-invasive test predicting outcomes in biliary atresia, Dr. Chaowapong Jarasvaraparn’s national consortium studying Fontan-associated liver disease, and Dr. Brian McFerron’s nationally recognized contributions to pediatric GI education.

Riley Children’s Parenteral Support and Intestinal Rehabilitation (PAIR) program was honored by the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN) with the prestigious Clinical Nutrition Team of Distinction Award for its innovative, multidisciplinary approach to caring for children with complex intestinal conditions.
