When you join the Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health team and make Indianapolis your home, you will find a variety of convenient housing options near our downtown campus or just a short drive away.

Whether you enjoy living in the revitalized downtown, in a luxury condo or loft, or are more at home in one of Indy’s historic or eclectic neighborhoods, you can choose from many affordable and unique neighborhoods. Once you are settled, you will find a vibrant, growing community with many opportunities to connect with new coworkers, friends and neighbors

Sports in Indianapolis

Indianapolis is a mecca for sports enthusiasts, whether you are a spectator or a participant. The Indianapolis 500 Festival not only offers one of the premier racing events in the country, it also hosts the mini-marathon, drawing runners from all corners of the world. For running enthusiasts who prefer shorter distances, the festival sponsors running and walking events of three, six and 10 miles. The festival also includes the KidsFit program, a 13-week training program for K-6th graders.

If you enjoy the thrill of professional sports, Indianapolis is home to the Indianapolis Colts, the Indiana Pacers, the WNBA’s Indiana Fever and the popular Indianapolis Indians minor league baseball team. Indiana has a reputation for some of the finest college basketball in the country. You can pick a favorite or support all four of the major teams, the Butler Bulldogs, the Indiana Hoosiers, the Purdue Boilermakers or the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. March Madness parties provide a great way to relax with old friends and connect with new ones.

Fitness enthusiasts and athletes can choose from a wide range of local sports leagues, from soccer and softball to golf and volleyball. Indianapolis also offers disc golf at three venues, as well as co-ed recreational sports meet-ups. Bicyclists can enjoy a variety of races and tours.

If scenic walks are more your style, Eagle Creek Reservoir, the Monon Rail Trail, the Canal Walk, the eight-mile Cultural Trail and Fort Benjamin Harrison offer miles of hiking trails. A short drive will take you to any of Indiana’s 30+ state parks.

Food & Drink

If you are looking for great food at reasonable prices, the choices are virtually endless throughout the metro area. Mass Avenue, Broad Ripple Village, City Market, rejuvenated Fountain Square, nearby Zionsville and the Speedway area provide excellent choices. You may also want to enjoy your meal with a craft beer or locally made wine and spirits.

Foodies can also enjoy the Fantastic Food Fest, The Vintage Indiana Wine and Food Festival, The Italian Food Festival, the French Market Festival, Devour Downtown, and Marsh Cookout on the Circle.

Family-Friendly Fun

Indianapolis is a great place to raise a family and watch your children thrive. The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, one of the best in the country, provides hands-on learning opportunities related to culture, art and science. The Indianapolis Zoo features year-round entertainment, including the new Simon Skjodt International Orangutan Center, the Hispanic Heritage Fiesta, and MLK Day, focused on the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. You can also enjoy holidays at the zoo with the Halloween ZooBoo and Christmas at the Zoo. And don’t forget the zoo’s dolphin encounters, aquarium and botanical gardens. You can also participate in the zoo’s twice-a-year recycling weekends.

Shopping

If you like to unwind with some shopping therapy, you are in luck. There are excellent shopping opportunities at The Fashion Mall at Keystone and Circle Centre Mall as well as other malls scattered across the city. Indy also has several independent movie theaters where you can enjoy a cocktail while watching the latest movies. The Indiana State Fair continues to delight with food, rides, exhibits, animals, concerts and more. The State Fairgrounds also offers year-round events including health events, RV shows, sporting events, gem and mineral shows, the Pet Expo and job fairs.

Art and Culture

If you are seeking inspiration, you will find art, music, culture and theater in every corner of the city. The Newfields Art Museum and the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art sponsor summer festivals featuring art, jewelry, food and music. The Talbott Street Art Fair, Penrod and the Broad Ripple Art Fair are must-see gatherings that offer locally-made art.

Indiana’s oldest bar, the Slippery Noodle Inn, offers the best blues in the city seven nights a week, and Symphony on the Prairie, held at the Connor Prairie Amphitheatre, has the perfect space for outdoor food, music and fun.

Indianapolis continues to grow and renew, and because of its sound economy, attracts individuals, families and high-profile businesses. Although it is one of the largest cities in America, Indianapolis maintains its warm and friendly Midwest character. When you come to Indianapolis to live and work, you and your family will find a welcoming place, where Hoosier hospitality will make you feel right at home.
