When sports injuries happen, peace of mind comes from knowing physical therapy can help your child return to what they love. At Riley Children’s Health, our rehabilitation specialists offer personalized sports physical therapy for young athletes, which focuses on using exercises and methods to treat sports-related injuries. They will first evaluate the condition, and then direct treatment to reduce pain, restore function and assist your child in going safely back to their sport or other activities.

About Pediatric Sports Physical Therapy

Pediatric sports physical therapy considers and assesses the growing athlete. It focuses on appropriate exercises to address your child’s maturing musculoskeletal system, or the system of the body that provides movement, stability and support. It incorporates a variety of elements to help your child return to their sport or other activities. Our sports physical therapists also offer injury prevention tips to aid in healing and avoid re-injury.

What to Expect

What to Expect

Our sports physical therapy team understands the sports your child plays and will create a variety of exercises that are tailored to their performance goals. Our highly skilled team will also progress your athlete to the next level of treatment based on individual readiness. Your pediatric sports physical therapy experience will include:


  • An individualized evaluation and a customized rehabilitation program designed by a pediatric-focused physical therapist
  • One-on-one patient-to-therapist ratio to ensure proper care and outcomes
  • Ongoing collaboration with specialized physicians and athletic trainers to provide optimal treatment
  • Sports performance training and injury prevention to keep your athlete healthy and avoid future re-injury

What to Bring

When your child visits a sports physical therapy office at Riley Children’s, please bring or wear loose clothing for a physical assessment, including tennis shoes, a short-sleeved shirt and shorts, if appropriate. If you have been given any equipment from your physician including crutches, walkers or braces, please bring those as well.
