You and your teenager may be thinking of plastic surgery to correct a physical condition or to change a part of the body that makes your child feel uncomfortable. The Adolescent Aesthetics Program at Riley at IU Health can help guide you and your child through this important decision.
Teenagers and adults up to 21 years old will receive compassionate, expert plastic surgery care to treat injuries or developmental issues of the breasts, nose, ears and facial bones. We also provide:
- Body contouring. We use surgical and nonsurgical procedures such laser therapy to shape different areas of the body by removing excess fat or cellulite, especially after significant weight loss.
- Orthognathic surgery. We correct conditions of the bones in the face and jaw and teeth that cannot be easily corrected by braces.
We provide two types of plastic surgery to meet your child’s needs:
- Reconstructive plastic surgery. This surgery corrects physical abnormalities or traumatic injuries, improves body functions or creates a more normal appearance.
- Cosmetic plastic surgery. This is an elective procedure you and your child may choose in order to reshape certain facial or body features, which can improve appearance and self-image.
Our care team includes experienced plastic surgeons, pediatric anesthesiologists and dedicated plastic surgery nurses. Our anesthesiologists maintain your child’s comfort and safety during surgery and provide pain management care after surgery. Our specially trained nurses care for your child before, during and after surgery through recovery. They will keep you informed of your child’s condition throughout the surgical process.
We understand this is a critical time for your child’s confidence and self-esteem. Our expert plastic surgery team provides quality care and partners with you and your child to make the best choice for his or her well-being.
Consistently ranked as one of the top children's hospital systems in the country by U.S.News & World Report, Riley at IU Health is a regional and national referral center for pediatric plastic surgery.
