Riley at IU Health Expands Children’s Health Care Network
Prominent group of private pediatric practices joins Riley at IU Health Physicians
From annual physicals to vaccines, a growing number of families can claim a new partner in their journey to support the everyday health care needs of their children: Riley at IU Health Physicians.
Introduced last summer by Riley at IU Health, Riley at IU Health Physicians is currently comprised of more than 150 pediatricians spanning a diverse set of practices from across central Indiana. Now, Riley at IU Health Physicians is announcing a new collaboration with a prominent group of private pediatric practices—Indiana Pediatrics—a move that brings nearly 50 Indianapolis-area pediatricians into the children’s health care network.
“Our mission is to improve the health of all Indiana children and their families,” said Dr. Jeff Sperring, President and CEO of Riley at IU Health. “We recognized that in order to fully deliver on that promise, we needed to expand beyond the walls of our downtown hospital and meet families in their own backyard.”
Riley at IU Health will continue providing the complex specialty care for which it is known. At the same time, it will continue working aggressively to keep kids healthy and out of the hospital by expanding Riley at IU Health Physicians, designed to expertly address the primary care needs of Indiana’s 1.5 million children.
“Riley at IU Health Physicians will meet the quality, safety, educational and care standards families have come to expect from Indiana’s only nationally ranked children’s hospital,” said Dr. Paul Haut, Riley at IU Health Chief Medical Officer. “We will also work collaboratively to develop new standards that will further impact the health of our state’s children.”
A key goal of Riley at IU Health Physicians is to help families find their way to the most appropriate health care provider to address their child’s unique needs. Constipation, for example, is typically best initially handled by pediatricians versus highly skilled gastrointestinal specialists unless otherwise indicated. However, oftentimes the opposite happens, which can equal long wait times in specialty clinics.
Riley at IU Health Physicians launched as a partnership between Riley at IU Health, IU Health Physicians, IU School of Medicine and statewide affiliates IU Health Arnett, Ball Memorial and Bloomington hospitals. Its newest members, private-practice pediatricians from Indiana Pediatrics, will retain the practice names that families are familiar with.
