Suparna C. Clasen, MD

Dr. Clasen is a clinical and research cardiologist specializing in cardio-oncology. This sub-specialty provides comprehensive care for managing co-existing heart disease and cancer.

She currently serves as the medical director of cardio-oncology for IU Health. She treats and manages the unintended cardiac side effects of chemo-, immuno- and radiation therapies. Through close collaboration with the cancer treatment team, her goal is to ensure the best outcomes for patients with cancer at risk for or concurrent cardiovascular disease.

Dr. Clasen works closely with hematologists, oncologists and radiation oncologists to monitor a patient’s heart health during treatment and provide long-term follow-up cardiac care for cancer survivors. She also offers heart evaluation for patients with cancer who are scheduled to undergo major surgery or to receive potentially cardio-toxic cancer treatment. Dr. Clasen also sees childhood survivors of cancer as they transition into adulthood to treat cardiovascular issues in survivorship.

Her clinical research focuses on providing earlier detection of cardio-toxic side effects of cancer treatment through specialized labs and cardiac imaging tests. Dr. Clasen is dedicated to finding new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cardiac disease as a complication of cancer treatment. Her clinical research focuses on the long-term effects of platinum-based chemotherapies and the unintended side effects of chest radiation.
