At Riley Children’s Health, our highly skilled pediatric cardiologists diagnose and treat heart defects, delivering advanced heart care to children and adults at every stage of congenital heart disease. As part of one the leading heart programs in the nation, our pediatric cardiology team is among the most respected for the diagnosis and treatment of congenital and acquired heart conditions in children.

Why Riley Children’s for Pediatric Cardiology?

Why Riley Children’s for Pediatric Cardiology?

  • Nationally recognized: When you choose Riley Children’s, you’re choosing nationally ranked care. Our pediatric cardiology and heart surgery program is nationally ranked by U.S. News and World Report.
  • Convenient access: With 12 outpatient locations across Indiana, pediatric cardiologists deliver nationally ranked heart care not only in Indianapolis but close to home.
  • Multidisciplinary care: With more heart specialists than anyone else in the state, the Riley Heart Center brings together the best minds to solve heart defects through innovation, research, and collaboration.
  • Fetal heart expertise: Pediatric cardiologists provide fetal cardiology services to mothers with babies with a suspected or known fetal heart problem.

Congenital heart disease (CHD) and other heart defects come in hundreds of different variations, and our pediatric heart specialists are highly skilled in caring for children with cardiovascular problems—from fetuses and premature babies to adults who survive with CHD or discover it later in life.

With pediatric cardiologists specializing in preventive cardiology, cardiac psychology, interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, and cardiac imaging—peace of mind comes from knowing that our team is skilled in caring for the full spectrum of children’s heart conditions. From chest pain to murmurs to congenital heart failure, we specialize in finding solutions to cardiac problems through diagnosis, consultation, treatment and follow-up care.

Expert heart care, global impact

Our pediatric cardiologists not only care for children in Indiana and across the U.S., but also partner with hospitals in the Middle East, Asia, and Africa, to provide highly skilled heart care. Our team has traveled the globe volunteering our time to treat heart patients and provide unparalleled care to kids who need it the most, including those who may not be able to receive or afford the highest level of care close to home.

Comprehensive heart care

Riley Children's Health offers the following specialized programs for cardiology patients:

  • Cardiology Tests and Evaluations: Pediatric cardiologists offer the full range of cardiac imaging, including echocardiogram, fetal echocardiogram, electrocardiogram, stress testing, Holter monitoring, event monitoring, and more.
  • Cardiovascular Genetics: With the only comprehensive cardiovascular genetics program in Indiana, the Riley Heart Center provides complete genetic evaluation of all family members, along with coordinated heart screenings.
  • Fetal Center: Fetal cardiologists evaluate unborn babies for cardiac conditions using fetal echocardiography and participate in care conferences with specialists in maternal-fetal medicine, neonatology, obstetrics, and cardiothoracic surgery.
  • Cardiothoracic Surgery: We provide every kind of life support, transport and assist device that could be needed for acute pediatric care. We also have a full complement of ventricular assist devices to support the function of a failing heart.
  • Pulmonary Hypertension: We offer coordinated care for lung and heart disease.
  • Preventive Cardiology: Dedicated pediatric cardiologists provide preventative care for patients with conditions such as hypertension and hyperlipidemia.
  • Adults with Congenital Heart Disease: Although many congenital heart defects are repaired in childhood, people with heart conditions need to be monitored all throughout life. Our pediatric and adult cardiologists provide lifelong care, customized to heart conditions.
Best Children's Hospitals, Cardiology & Heart Surgery 2022-23, US News & World Report

Nationally Ranked Heart Care

Riley Children's Health Cardiology & Heart Surgery is nationally ranked by U.S. News & World Report. Our team is the only group performing pediatric heart transplantation in Indiana and the pediatric cardiac critical care team is the only one of its kind in the state.

Your Child’s First Visit

Your Child’s First Visit

Depending on your child’s symptoms, an initial visit with pediatric cardiology will include a physical examination where heart rate, blood pressure and other vitals are evaluated by a cardiac nurse. It may also include diagnostic tests and imaging such as an echocardiogram or chest X-rays to further evaluate the function of the heart. If a significant cardiac problem is detected, our pediatric cardiologists may recommend additional testing with the latest diagnostic tools, advanced therapeutic or surgical treatment, and follow-up to continue to monitor your child’s condition.

Know that if CHD is detected, we offer a patient-and family-centered approach to your child’s care and a personalized treatment plan. And should heart surgery be needed, our cardiothoracic surgeons provide exceptional patient outcomes year-after-year.
