The 71st Annual Meeting of the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association: Riley Was There

Last month, the Cleft and Craniofacial Team of Riley at IU Health was proud to welcome The American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association (ACPA) to Indianapolis as our city played host to ACPA’s 71st annual scientific meeting.

The ACPA is an international organization of over 2500 health care professionals who treat birth defects of the face and skull. The ACPA promotes research and fosters collaboration among specialists from many disciplines and sets the standards of care for craniofacial patients worldwide.

Riley at IU Health's status as a leading craniofacial center was evident at the meeting, with many of our team members doing podium and poster presentations, serving on panels and committees, and volunteering in various capacities. Topics covered by the Riley at IU Health team included presentations on Pierre Robin Sequence, speech outcomes in patients with cleft palate, and the effectiveness of Dynacleft for pre-surgical orthopedics.

Team members who participated include Doctors Roberto Flores, Sunil Tholpady, Melinda Costa, Marilyn Bull, and LaQuia Walker, as well as Angela Dixon, Pat Terrell, Carol Ritter, Lou Ann Epperson, and Trish Severns. Our team’s strong representation at this national scientific meeting reflects our team’s passion for cleft and craniofacial care.

In addition, Riley at IU Health's Cleft and Craniofacial Team in partnership with the Sertoma Club of Broad Ripple sponsored the opening session and keynote address of R.J. Palacio, the author of “Wonder”, the New York Time’s best-selling novel about a boy born with a craniofacial anomaly.

The ACPA had record attendance at this year’s annual meeting with over 720 attendees. The Cleft and Craniofacial Team is proud to represent Riley Hospital at this important meeting and to share expertise with craniofacial specialists from around the world.
