Make a list, check it twice, and ship those toys to Riley this year

To keep everyone safe, generous elves and supporters of Riley are asked to order toys off the Cheer Guild’s Top 5 Amazon wish list and get them shipped for free.

It’s no surprise that holiday donations at Riley Hospital for Children will look different this year.

While the Riley Cheer Guild typically looks forward to accepting generous toy donations from individuals, families and organizations wanting to give back at this time of year, COVID-19 has forced the hospital to restrict in-person drop-offs.

“We have set up online wish-list options for all of our fantastic donors and supporters where they can choose the items we are most in need of and ship them directly to us for free,” said Cheer Guild Director Ann Hannan.

“Riley is so appreciative of its donors in the face of all of the challenges we have experienced during 2020,” she added. “The smiles brought to the faces of thousands of children warm the hearts of their parents and the staff who care for them each day.”

After a flood of Barbie doll donations came in recently in response to a Facebook post, Hannan and the Guild have updated their Top 5 list of toys needed for Riley kids, not only for distribution at the holidays but the entire year.

The Top 5 are:

  • Baby dolls for kids 0-3
  • Craft kits for all ages
  • Light and sound items for infants
  • Toy vehicles
  • Play-Doh sets

Order these items directly and have them shipped via the Cheer Guild’s Amazon wish list.

For those in the community who have already collected items for donation, private, socially distanced deliveries can be accommodated by appointment by calling 317-944-8705.

Toys must be new and unwrapped; unfortunately, handmade items and cards cannot be distributed to the children.

But if you include a gift message with your online wish list donation, the Cheer Guild reads each one, Hannan said.

“We enjoy hearing about how toys have impacted you and your own children during your experiences at Riley.”
