4 Things You Don't Know About Dr. Paul Haut

Blog Dr Haut Web

Dr. Paul Haut, Interim President and Chief Medical Officer at Riley at IU Health fields a lot of questions each day. But it has probably been a while since someone asked the man who enjoys making a difference for kids and their families what he listened to on his morning commute (alternative rock on satellite radio), or what he wanted to grow up to be when he was younger (architect or automobile designer). So we took some fun questions to Dr. Haut. Here’s how he responded:

Hobby or relaxing outlet away from work

“I love food and especially cooking. At the end of some of my most stressful days I love going to the store and getting the ingredients for a new dish and then making a total mess of our kitchen,” Dr. Haut says. Fortunately, his wife loves it when he cooks and is always willing to clean up.

When it comes to some of his favorite recipes, Dr. Haut says they come from his mother who taught him to cook. “Her sauce recipe which she learned as a young girl from a neighbor who had immigrated from Italy is a staple in our house.”

First job

Swimming instructor, then a lifeguard. “I started as a teenager,” he explains. “In retrospect these were my first exposures to leadership.”

Best advice ever received

Listen carefully with all of your senses to what people are saying.  “Listening with your full attention is a sign of respect. It is critical to really pay attention to not only the words but also the body language, tone of the voice etc…to get the entire story.”

Healthiest habit

Pilates two-three days per week.
