
The Comprehensive Epilepsy Program at Riley Children’s Health is the only Level IV program in Indiana treating children with medically refractory epilepsy. Our goal is to evaluate all children with medically refractory epilepsy to determine which treatment is most likely to result in your patient achieving seizure freedom and improving their quality of life. Using highly specialized equipment, Riley Children’s neurosurgeons offer minimally invasive epilepsy surgery and other leading-edge interventions. Referral to our program is recommended if your patient fails two or more medications.
Coordinated Care for Your Patients
Our Comprehensive Epilepsy Program offers access to leading-edge care throughout the patient experience:
- Referral of a patient with continued seizures on two or more medications
- Phase 1:
- Pre-surgical workup: Functional imaging (MRI), neuropsychological testing (VEEG) and MEG
- Comprehensive Epilepsy Program conference: Multidisciplinary team agrees upon treatment options
- Keep referring provider informed throughout the entire process
- Meet with family to discuss and agree upon treatment plan
- Phase 2:
- Monitoring and epilepsy surgery
- Post-operative appointment at two weeks
- Post-operative appointment at three months
- Review annual outcomes
